This morning I woke up to a new comment on one of my paintings. I was excited at first because I don't often get feed back on them since painting is obviously not my main focus. This feeling was immediately dispersed by a single word repeated three times "Lie, lie, lie." This comment was left on my Armenian Genocide painting.

In 1915, during WWI, the Turkish government performed a systematic annihilation of the Armenian people. Over one million unarmed Armenians were brutally murdered. It was the first genocide of the new century and most people have never even heard of it. To this day the Turkish government spends billions of dollars every year to pay other countrys to continue denying it as well. The United States has come close to recognizing this event, but decided not to at the last minute because we have military bases in Turkey to fight "The war on terror" . . . Which in reality translates to us just stealing their oil, but that's a completely different matter. Turkey threatened that if the US recognized the Armenian Genocide they would no longer allow any of our military bases in their country.

My grandparents on my mothers side of the family and my great grandparents on my fathers side were there when it happened. They saw first hand their friends and neighbors murdered. It was only by the grace of god they successfully fled the country before it was to late. When someone says to me the Genocide is a lie, they are not just calling my people liars, they are calling direct members of my family liars. It takes a lot to make me mad, but people who have the audacity to say the Armenian genocide didn't happen . . . ignorance of this level simply should not be allowed.

P.S. The comments have been hidden on said image. This is a place for art, not for hate.

This is really sad... I'm sorry this happend to you. You wouldn't believe how many people here in Germany are denying Hitlers genocide of the jews, even though it so very well documented and the most vile thing in our national history.

I was really shocked to learn about the genocide of the Armenians a few years back when I started listening to System of a Down. Even though genocide is for obvious reasons a hot topic in German history I have not once heard anything about Armenia in history class - a gross oversight in our syllabus in my opinion, even more so since both happenings are linked. It is a very good thing that people like Serj Tankian and his band mates, who are very influential to young people, use their "star power" to educate us, if governments wont!

Roboerin3000 is absolutely right, you should really report that idiot. Hate-mongering has no place in a community like this.
