It's been over a year now since I finished my chainmail chess pieces and now I finally have a table to play on. The pedistal is a solid block of wood that I laminated together out of two inch thick stock and then carved away at. The base is approximately 11X11 inches. The table top was constructed in the same manner and then inlay-ed with marble and granite. Yes it is a very heavy table.
As you can plainly see this is not an ordinary chess board. This is what is known as Byzantine Chess or round chess. When I was first thinking of building this table I thought I had come up with a rather brilliant original idea. However with a little research I discovered that a few other had already come up with the idea before me. I still think I've one upped them though since this is the first board I know of that wasn't just made of cheap plastic.
